MOSCOW, March 3. /TASS/. Savelovsky court of Moscow on Friday sentenced to eight years imprisonment and a fine of 1 million rubles. former Deputy General Director of “Aeroflot” financial officer Nikolai Glushkov, finding him guilty of defrauding the airline of nearly $123 million in the second half of 1990-ies, the correspondent of TASS.

Glushkov was charged under part 4. article 159 of the criminal code (“Fraud committed in especially large size”). The trial against him is held in absentia, since the Glushkov left Russia and, according to some, resides in the UK.

Money from the arrested accounts

The court also sought to Glushkov in favor of “Aeroflot” approximately $20 million.

“The court ruled arrested Glushkov accounts in Swiss banks to recover in favor of the victims,” announced the judge. “We are talking about $20 million, arrested in 1990-ies,” – said the Prosecutor.

The matter of “Aeroflot”

According to investigators, Glushkov in the structure of the criminal group, along with businessman Boris Berezovsky in the period from April 1996 to April 1999, convinced at that time the head of “Aeroflot” Yevgeny Shaposhnikov to take out large monetary loans ostensibly for financial recovery of the company. In fact, money in the amount of $122,654 million was stolen.

Earlier in the framework of a judicial investigation was questioned by the Deputy Minister of transport of the Russian Federation, the former General Director “Aeroflot” Valery Okulov. According to him, one of the initiatives Glushkov was the cooperation with the company “foros” to meet the shortage of working capital. At the same time, according to Okulov, Glushkov was a friendly relationship with Berezovsky.

According to Okulov, in 1998, the leadership of “Aeroflot” analysis was made of the activities of the financial unit of the company and concluded that the airline is under external control, then the staff of the financial unit, including Glushkov, was dismissed.
