U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, representing the upper house of the Congress of Connecticut, said that FIFA should deprive Russia the right to host the world Cup 2018
Due to Russia’s involvement in the Syrian conflict FIFA should move the 2018 world Cup to another country, said us Senator Richard Blumenthal. A member of the Democratic party of the USA in the near future plans to send FIFA a letter of appeal.
“I hope that my appeal will support the best of the best in FIFA. If necessary, I am ready to take the next step. The transfer of the right to host the world Cup Russia is not just a symbolic gesture . This is a serious award, allowing Putin to consider itself a big player on the world stage. She feeds his ego, allowing him to do terrible things that informed the world has ever seen” — quoted by Blumenthal official website of the TV channel WTNH broadcasting in Connecticut.
Blumenthal holds Russia responsible for the chemical attack in the Syrian province of Idlib, which occurred April 4. Victims of the attack were more than 80 people. The Syrian opposition and Western countries blamed their deaths on the forces of President Bashar al-Assad. However, the official Damascus denies involvement in the incident. The Russian defense Ministry claim that the Syrian army has hit an ammunition dump of militants, where were stored chemical weapons.
