SIMFEROPOL, June 1. /TASS/. The number of tourists in the Crimea’s largest resort region of Russia in January-may this year compared to the same period last year increased by 28% to 1.1 million people. On Friday the head of the region Sergey Aksenov.

“For five months in the Crimea rested 1,148 million tourists. This is almost 28% higher than the same period last year,” he wrote on his page in Facebook.

The growth of tourist traffic Aksenov associated with the opening of the Crimean bridge and entering the new terminal building of the international airport Simferopol. “Masterpieces of the infrastructure of the Crimea are already working on the economy of the Peninsula. A third of tourists arrived by air. Over two weeks of may, 17% of the total flow of tourists came to us on the Crimean bridge, it’s impressive,” – said the head of the Crimea.

He also said that almost a quarter of tourists (23%) arrived during this period from Ukraine, “despite the sanctions and the obstacles on the part of the Kiev authorities”.

According to the authorities, the flow of tourists to the Republic in January – April this year, in comparison with the same period last year increased by 11% to 528,5 thousand. Authorities predict that the Crimea will be able to take this year to 6 million tourists against the 5.39 million in 2017. Experts are more cautious in forecasts and we hope that tourist flow to the Crimea in the new holiday season will remain at last year’s level.

“Tourism plays an important role in the socio-economic life of the Crimea. For coastal cities and towns this industry is budget. We hope that by the end of the year, the tourist season will be more successful than in previous years”, – said Aksenov.
