TASS, August 18. Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian retained the lead in the standings after the first round of the blitz tournament in the us St. Louis (Missouri).

The tournament was attended by ten players: the Russians Ian Nepomniachtchi, Sergey Karjakin and Garry Kasparov, the Americans Hikaru Nakamura and Fabiano Caruana, Indian Viswanathan Anand, the Czech David Navara, Cuban Leinier domínguez, Vietnamese Le Quang Liem and Aronian.

On August 15-16 chess players held a tournament in one round of rapid chess (rapid), time control – 25 minutes + 10 seconds per move . August 17-18 competitions in the blitz, the participants get five minutes per game adding three seconds for each move. For the victory in rapid chess players were awarded two points for a draw one. In blitz for a win receives one point for a draw of 0.5.

On Thursday in the first round of the blitz Aronian defeated Le Quang Liem, Anand, Nepomniachtchi, Kasparov and Dominguez drew with Nakamura, Navara, Karjakin and lost to Caruana. Nepomniatchi defeated Dominguez, Navara and Caruana played out a draw with Anand, Kasparov, Nakamura and Le Quang Liem lost to Aronian and Karjakin. Kasparov, the nine parties of the blitz scored one victory over Dominguez, five times played a draw with Karjakin, Nepomniachtchi, Nakamura, Anand and Navara, lost three times – Caruana, Le Quang Liem and Aronian. Karjakin has not suffered a single defeat, beat Dominguez, Navara, Nepomniachtchi, Caruana, Nakamura, Le Quang Liem and Anand played a draw with Kasparov and Aronian.

Standings after the first round of the blitz chess: Aronian – 18.5 points, Nakamura is 16.5, Karjakin – 16, Nepomniachtchi – 15, Caruana – 14,5, Le Quang Liem, Dominguez – 12, Kasparov, Anand – 10,5, a gain of 9.5.

The tournament in St. Louis is the fourth stage of the Grand tour – commercial series with participation of the strongest players in the world. The prize Fund of the tournament is $150 thousand, of which the winner will receive $37.5 thousand Completed the Grand tour tournament in classical chess in London in December.
