News of show business: the international Council of experts has determined the nominees for the International prize named after Ivan Franko in 2018.
As noted, in the nomination “For outstanding achievements in the industry social Sciences and Humanities” the members of the Council of experts recommended to the consideration of the jury: Johannes Remy “Brothers or Enemies: The Ukrainian National Movement and Russia, from the 1840s to the 1870s” (“Brothers or enemies: the Ukrainian national movement and Russia, from the 1840s to 1870s years,” Johannes Remy (Finland); the monograph “Galich in the political life of Europe in the XI-XIV centuries”, Leontiy Voytovych (Ukraine); the series of works “of Values discourse in education”, the team of authors under the leadership of Viktor Andrushchenko (Ukraine ).
In the nomination “For outstanding achievements (achievement) in the field of Ukrainian studies” to the jury presented the monograph Andrew Wilson, “The Ukrainians: Unexpected Nation” (Andrew Wilson, “the Ukrainians: unexpected nation” (UK) research Hans Rothe and Jurij Medvedyk “Bogoglasnik. Pesni blagogovejnyja (1790/1791). Eine Sammlung geistliche Lieder aus Ukraine” (Hans Roth and Yury Bear “Bogoglasnik. Song of reverence (1790/1791) a Collection of spiritual songs from Ukraine” (Germany and Ukraine); the monograph Yaroslava Melnik “… and the last part of the road. Ivan Franko in the years 1908-1916” (Ukraine).
This year the international Council of experts includes 27 scientists from 8 countries: USA, Canada, Germany, Austria, Poland, Slovakia, Switzerland and Ukraine.
In accordance with the regulations, the members of the Council in the selection of the nominees were guided by their own knowledge, and also compared the scientific work that claim for the Award on the following criteria: innovative and original approaches to research; conceptual, systematic and critical studies; international context and the level of scientific research.
Selected nominees will be forwarded to the International jury, which will meet in Vienna from 22 to 24 June of this year. The winners of the International prize. Ivan Franko 2018 in two categories will be announced June 24. The award ceremony will be held on August 27 at the home of Ivan Franko in the city of Drohobych.
Recall, the Prize was established in 2015 by the grandson of Ivan Franko – Roland Franco. The main purpose of the Award is to promote a comprehensive study of the creative, scientific and public activities of Ivan Franko, encouraging scientists from different countries to conduct relevant research in the field of Humanities and social Sciences and Ukrainian studies. The prize is annual and is awarded on August 27 – the day of the birth of Ivan Franko. The winners will be awarded cash award and gold badge award winner.
Award winners from previous years
in 2016, the Archbishop retired, the former head of the UGCC Lubomyr Husar with the scientific monograph “Andrey Sheptytsky, Metropolitan of Halych (1901-1944) a harbinger of ecumenism”;
in 2017 in the nomination “For outstanding achievements (achievement) in the field of Ukrainian studies” – Professor, Institute of Slavonic studies of Vienna University Michael Mozer with the monograph “New Contributions to the History of the Ukrainian Language”;
in 2017 in the nomination “For significant achievements in the field of social Sciences and Humanities” – the honoured Professor of Lviv national University named Ivan Franko, academician Oleg Shabliy with scientific work “Social geography” in 2 volumes.
