MOSCOW, may 30. /TASS/. The Commissioner of the National hockey League (NHL) Gary Bettman said that none of the players in the League will not participate in the Olympics in 2018. His words leads portal Sportsnet.

In early April, the NHL announced that it will suspend regular season in February of 2018 at the Olympic hockey tournament, while noting that the issue of individual players will be discussed separately. Earlier, the President of the International ice hockey Federation (IIHF) Rene Fasel said that the final decision on the participation of NHL players in the Olympics in 2018 could be made in June, when they host the NHL draft. While the IIHF advised federations to include in the extended squad for the Games members of the NHL.

“We are not against the Olympics, we are against the disruption of the season. The decision was final,” said Bettman .

He also commented on the intention of the Russian forward of “Washington” Alexander Ovechkin to participate in the competition regardless of the decision of the League. “We expect that none of our players will not travel to the Game,” said NHL Commissioner.

NHL players competed at the Olympics since 1998. Olympic games 2018 will be held in South Korean Pyeongchang from 9 to 25 February.
