People’s Deputy of Ukraine Chairman of the Ukrainian delegation to NATO PA Irene Frieze (fraction “BPP”) is deeply concerned about the position of Hungary on the determination of the date of the meeting of the Commission Ukraine-NATO at level of Ministers of defence.

As writes on Friday evening, I. Frieze in his page on the social network Facebook, “we should recognize that the position of Hungary, which came to the actual blackmail is not only counterproductive but also undermines the security in Europe.”

The Ukrainian parliamentarian said that Russia’s policy together with the activity of the Islamic State (a terrorist organization – if) is one of the key threats in the European region and the world. “In this regard, the attempts of Budapest to block the meeting of the Commission Ukraine-NATO at the level of Ministers of defense is the dangerous practice of mixing bilateral humanitarian issues with the security and defence of the whole region . Thus Hungary is not only indirectly contributes to the weakening of NATO’s efforts to minimize regional risks, but also promotes the policy of Russia on the destruction of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization from within”, – is convinced I. Frieze.

Ukrainian MP considers that such behaviour Hungary cannot be attributed to the controversies surrounding the Ukrainian educational law, because the Ukrainian side proposes and ready to tackle such issues through negotiations in the spirit of international law, the European Charter for regional or minority languages with the mechanisms of the Annual national program of cooperation with NATO.

“Ukraine is always open to negotiations and settlement of disputes in the spirit of the Alliance at the negotiating table. I hope that Budapest will abandon its policy of blackmail with evidence of territorial claims to the territory of a sovereign Ukraine”, – wrote I. Frieze.

As reported previously, the Internet edition “Ukrainian truth” wrote that the meeting of the Commission Ukraine-NATO was blocked by Hungary. The publication notes that the Ministerial meeting of the Commission was held on 14 or 15 February during a meeting of defense Ministers of all member countries of the Alliance. “However, Hungary has vetoed and blocked the meeting, it was confirmed by several sources”, – the newspaper notes.

NATO confirmed that a meeting of the Commission Ukraine-NATO does not appear in the calendar of the meeting of defense Ministers of the Alliance on February 14-15. “Not currently scheduled meeting of the Commission NATO-Ukraine”, – said in response to the request of the Agency “Interfax-Ukraine” on Friday.

NATO spokesman also noted that in December was held a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine, to discuss the security situation in Ukraine and the progress of reforms.

NATO also recalled that in recent time has also shown signals of constant support of Ukraine by the Alliance. In particular, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg spoke with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, and the North Atlantic Council visited Kiev in July 2017.

The meeting of defense Ministers of countries-members of the Alliance will be held in Brussels on 14 and 15 February.
