The UK government plans to propose new legislation that will allow to impose sanctions after the country’s withdrawal from the EU.

This was stated by Minister for European Affairs of the UK, Alan Duncan, reports Reuters.

The fact that the United Kingdom imposes restrictive measures with EU law, therefore, after the country’s withdrawal from the European Union in London there would be no legal sanctions mechanism.

“This will allow us to impose appropriate sanctions on their own or together with partners in the EU and worldwide, to impose targeted measures against States, organizations and individuals violating international law, providing if Finance terrorism or a threat to international peace and security,” said Duncan .

Reuters adds that currently, the UK supports more than 30 sets of sanctions, including against Russia, North Korea and Iran.

“The new legislation will include the introduction of a mechanism for annual review of the sanctions to validate their relevance. It will also allow individuals and organizations to challenge the imposition of a sanction”, – stated in the material.
