A concert of the famous pianist Denis Matsuev and the State Symphony orchestra of Tatarstan under Alexander Sladkovsky took place in the Day of Russia in Geneva “Victoria hall” – one of the best concert halls of Switzerland. As part of the concert the musicians performed Symphony No. 2 in e minor, Op. 27 Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Concerto No. 1 for piano and orchestra by Pyotr Tchaikovsky.

Before the concert, held in the framework of international cultural project “the Day of Russia in the world – Russian Day”, the Ambassador of Russia in Switzerland Sergey Garmonin brought greetings from President Vladimir Putin to the participants, guests and organizers of the festivities.

“In this project I am participating for the second time . I think that this is a wonderful initiative of the Charity Fund to support cultural and social programs “Classics”, – said Matsuev in an interview with Russian journalists. “In my opinion, culture and, in particular, classical music is the best therapist in our turbulent time,” he said, adding: “When we hear Russian music – Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, Scriabin, Prokofiev, Shostakovich – is the moment of reconciliation, a moment of calm, it’s timeless music that will sound forever.”

“I love this gym, played here dozens of times, – said Matsuev. – What we came here with the Symphony orchestra of Tatarstan, it is very significant, because it is important to show the world not only with our famous Moscow and Petersburg collectives.” Tatarstan national Symphony orchestra Matsuev described as “very young and has a tireless energy.”

In an interview with TASS Alexander Sladkovsky noted that the selection of repertoire for the concert in Geneva is due to the fact that Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff – “this is Russian music,” and “we play in Day of Russia”. “It’s hard to find a Russian concert, the First concert of Tchaikovsky, the most Russian of symphonies – Rachmaninov’s Second Symphony,” said Maestro, adding: “Speaking at the Russia Day Bank in the heart of Europe, we must show the class and the scale of this brilliant music.”

“We play in any room with full dedication, as if for the last time.
