TASS, July 25. Willie Desjardins will be head coach of the Canada hockey at the Olympic games in 2018, which will be held in South Korea’s Pyeongchang. About it reports a press-service of the Association of hockey Canada.

In April 2017, the 60-year-old Desjardins was dismissed from his post as head coach of the National hockey League (NHL ) Vancouver, which was led by 2014. Previously, he also led a team of the American hockey League (AHL) “Texas stars” (farm-club “Dallas”), which became the champion of the tournament (season 2013/14) and teams in canadian Junior Western League, twice winning the main trophy of competitions.

The General Manager of the national team appointed Sean Burke, silver medalist of the Olympic games of 1992. Also, the staff team included two-time Olympic champion Martin Brodeur, who three times won the Stanley Cup in the “new Jersey” and four times won the prize of best goalkeeper of the season in the NHL.

Team Canada has won the last two Olympics (2010, 2014) under the guidance of Mike Babcock.

Olympics in Pyeongchang to be held on 14-25 February. In the preliminary round, the Canadians will play with teams of the Czech Republic, Switzerland and South Korea.

In mid-June, the NHL has published the calendar of the regular championship of a season-2017/18, which is not provided a pause for the Olympics. This is due to the fact that the NHL and the international Olympic Committee came to an agreement on the participation of hockey players of League Games. Earlier also it was reported that the clubs AHL has been advised of the possibility of national teams to call up players from this League to the Olympic games. The decision applies only to players that do not have contracts with NHL clubs.
