Academician Yuri Ryzhov

MOSCOW, July 29. /TASS/ Academician Yuri Ryzhov, died July 29 at 87-m to year of life. This was reported on Saturday on the website of the Moscow Helsinki group.

“July 29 was not an academic, scientist, political and public figure, laureate of the Moscow Helsinki group Yuri Alekseevich Ryzhov. The Moscow Helsinki group expresses sincere condolences to the family of Yuri and mourns with them,” according to the website of the human rights organization.

Yuri Ryzhov was born on 28 Oct 1930 in Moscow. In 1989-1991 he was a member of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. In 1992-1999 he held the post of Ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia in France. Ryzhov is one of the founders of the Public Committee to protect scientists, who supported accused of treason by Russian scientists.

According to the MHG, farewell to Ryzhov will be held at the Sakharov center. The time and date will be announced later .
