In Ecuador, the raging protests

The decision on introducing the state of emergency was made on Thursday morning, October 3.

The President of Ecuador, Lenin Moreno imposed a state of emergency because of the protests caused by the reform of the fuel market. His statement was published on Twitter on 3 October.

“I declared a state of emergency for the protection of order, security of citizens and control over those who intend to cause havoc”, − stated in the message of the President.

He also added that the authorities are not going to succumb to blackmail and will act according to the law, noting that the government is open to dialogue.

Recall that the protests in Madore began after Moreno signed the decree about cancellation since October 3, subsidies on diesel and gasoline, causing fuel prices increased.

After that, in several cities of the country began protests, the participants of which demanded to cancel the reform.

As you know, every year the country spends more than $ 1.3 billion on subsidies for fuel.

In December last year, Moreno signed a decree on increasing by 25% the price of gasoline. Prior to this, the price of a liter of petrol in the country remained one of the lowest in the world.
