TALLINN, July 31. /TASS/. The United States contribution to the security of the Baltic States is indispensable. This opinion was expressed by the President of Estonia Kersti Kaljulaid at the meeting with Vice-President Mike Pence.

“We are satisfied that the collective deterrence and defense of NATO in the Baltic States strengthened, and the U.S. contribution to regional security remains indispensable,” she said Monday at the meeting which was also attended by the presidents of Latvia Raimonds Vejonis and Lithuanian Dalia Grybauskaite.

Kirsty Kaljulaid along with Mike Pence also participated in the round table devoted to the issues of cybersecurity and innovation, where the President of Estonia introduced digital developments.

“The challenge for States is to make people’s lives easier . For example, one of the most important tasks of the state is to guarantee the identification of citizens. Paper passports will be issued to all but secure identification in the digital world offers only a few countries”, – the words Kaljulaid her office.

Michael Pence has arrived with two-day visit to Estonia on Sunday. The main point of the two-day Estonian programme Pence was meeting with the leaders of all three Baltic republics, presidents of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.

At the end, Pence said that under President trump States, “stand firm” in article 5 of the NATO Charter on mutual defence, under which the “attack on one of us is an attack on all”.

“President trump sent me here to say: “We, we, together with the peoples of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, and will always be,” said Pence.

On Monday, Vice-President of the United States will continue a foreign trip, heading to Georgia and Montenegro.
