News of Ukraine: the EU welcomed the adoption by Ukraine of the law on national security.

The European Union welcomed the adoption of the law on national security of Ukraine and urged the authorities to fully implement its provisions.

According to a statement posted Monday on the page of the EU delegation in Ukraine in Facebook, the adoption of the law “On national security of Ukraine” was an important step towards the approximation of Ukraine’s security sector to the European principles and standards.

“The law creates a legal basis for further reform of the security Service of Ukraine, which should be brought to an end”, – stressed in the EU.

European partners urged Ukraine to make all efforts to fully implement the provisions of the act, which provides, inter alia, the timely development, adoption and implementation of other legal acts in this sphere .

“The European Union in the face of the Advisory mission of the EU will continue to participate in the work of International Advisory group for providing guidance and support Ukraine in this process”, – added in the EU.

As reported, on 5 July the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed previously approved by the Verkhovna Rada draft law No. 8068 of national security of Ukraine, which defines and delimits the powers of state bodies in the sphere of national security and defense, and determines the number of fundamental national interests of the membership in EU and NATO.

The Verkhovna Rada adopted this law on second reading and in whole on 21 June.
