Mutko: the work on the stadiums for the 2018 world Cup are conducted in accordance with FIFA requirements

“FIFA and the local organizing Committee began to conduct systematic inspection of the presence of North Korean workers at all construction sites of world Cup. Check, in particular, include requirements for General contractors to provide written statements about the presence in the construction of the citizens of the DPRK. To date FIFA has not found any evidence that the citizens of North Korea are working on construction sites of competition venues in the world. If proof of this be found, FIFA as part of its monitoring system will take the necessary steps to solve this problem,” – said in a FIFA statement.

“FIFA strongly condemns all human rights violations related to its activities, and in cooperation with international and national trade unions will continue to monitor any violation of the rights of workers regardless of their nationality,” reads the statement.

Earlier, heads of football federations of Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Iceland wrote a letter to the President of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, in connection with the concern about the working conditions of North Korean workers in the construction arena in Saint – Petersburg.

“During the inspection visit in November last year, the monitoring team FIFA found evidence of the presence of North Korean workers – said in a FIFA statement. – The group then undertook efforts to obtain additional information about their work and living conditions, recognizing the potential problems of attracting employees from this country. After the inspection visit results were discussed with the companies involved. During the last inspection in March, the monitoring team found no evidence of the presence of North Korean workers at the construction site and came to the conclusion that not a single North Korean worker there no longer works, this conclusion is supported by information obtained separately from Wood Workers’ International (BWI)”.
