According to Rasmussen, in the United States considered the option of strengthening sanctions against Russia.
Former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said that it is necessary to consider the introduction of new sanctions against Russia because of the situation around Ukraine, RIA Novosti reported.
“Not so long ago Russia acknowledged that the separatists had seized the Ukrainian enterprises in the East of Ukraine. I think that, obviously, it is necessary to impose sanctions against those companies that were involved in the expropriation (business ed.). I also think you should consider extending your circle of people, which will be subject to sanctions for human rights violations, for example, the Crimean Tatars,” – he said.
Rasmussen noted that “judging by the conversations here in Washington, this option (to strengthen sanctions against Russia – ed.) is considered .”
“Will it be implemented? I think it largely depends on the behavior of the Russian Federation. And my opinion is that if Russia continues to behave aggressively and will continue to destabilize the situation in the East of Ukraine, then the sanctions should be strengthened,” said former NATO Secretary General.
