France is in favour of convening the meeting of the UN security Council to discuss the situation in Syria, said on Tuesday French foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault.

“I have requested the convening of an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council,” – said in a statement, J.-M., Herault, published on the website of the French foreign Ministry.

The French side believes that the meeting should discuss the reports about the possible use of chemical weapons in Syria.

“In the face of such a serious nature that are detrimental to international security, I urge that everyone take responsibility,” – reads the statement of the Minister.

“The use of chemical weapons is a violation of the Convention on the prohibition of chemical weapons and is evidence of cruelty, the victims of which for so many years is the Syrian people,” the document reads .

Earlier some mass-media there were messages about the attack on the town of Khan Sheyhun in Idlib province with the help of ammunition with poisonous substances, which, according to some reports, killed at least 58 people. The opposition blamed the attack on Damascus.

The head of European diplomacy Federica Mogherini stated that the responsibility for the case of the use of chemical weapons on Syrian territory is the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. “It is clear that the primary responsibility lies with the regime (of Bashar al-Assad – if), because it has a responsibility to protect people, not attack people,” she said.
