International experts of the French company Bureau Veritas, a world leader in testing, inspection and certification of cable cars arrived in Gudauri and has already started studying the causes of a major accident that occurred March 16 on one of the lifts of this ski resort of Georgia.

As reported in the Sunday press service of the Ministry of economic development of Georgia together with them to establish details of the incident were attended by experts of Austrian-Swiss company Doppelmayr, the manufacturer of this cable car, mount it in Gudauri, as well as representatives of Prosecutor’s office of Georgia, National Bureau of expertise named Samkharauli and the Agency for technical and construction supervision Ministry of economy and sustainable development of the Republic .

“The government considers that the expert opinion must be totally unbiased on the part of all connected to the process, because it is not just about a particular incident, during which the people suffered, but also about the reputation of our country”, – said the first Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of economic development of Georgia Dmitry Kumsishvili before expert review the causes of the accident.

The cable car to the top of the mountain Sadzeli, designed for experienced skiers and snowboarders, was installed in Gudauri in 2007. The last time the cable car was tested in December 2017, by company CA International, which is an accredited in Georgia on inspection.

“This is one of the ten thousand cable cars that our company installed around the world. Of course, from our side all safety standards were protected. Now you must wait while together with the authorities we can establish the cause of the incident, and then we can talk about further details,” – said the representative of the company Doppelmayr, the TV channel “Rustavi 2”.

As reported in the accident that occurred March 16 on the ropeway in Gudauri, damage received varying degrees of eight people, they were taken to a local urgent care clinic. Among the victims – four citizens of Russia, two citizens of Ukraine, one citizen of Sweden and a citizen of Georgia.

According to preliminary information, the cable car lost power, then the seat suddenly began to rapidly roll back and crashed into each other, with the result that people began to fall from the heights of the snow. It was later announced another version – malfunction of the brake system of the cableway.

In connection with this incident, the Ministry of internal Affairs of Georgia launched investigation under the article 275 of the criminal code of Georgia “violation of safety rules or operating rail, air or suspended transport.”

Gudauri is one of the most popular ski resorts of Georgia. It is located at a height of over 2 thousand meters above sea level, a 2-hour drive from Tbilisi. The snow height on the slopes reaches 1.5 m. Most ski slopes in the resort designed for beginners, kids and Amateurs, but there are tracks for professionals. Traditionally the ski season in Gudauri lasts from December to may.
