Counterintelligence of security Service of Ukraine commits gross violations of international law by employees of FSB of the Russian Federation in respect of citizens of Ukraine who legally carry a catch of fish in the sea of Azov.

As reported the press center of the SBU on Friday, the Russian intelligence Agency of illegally detained Ukrainian citizens, and then, through threats and blackmail seeking false testimony about the alleged illegal catch of fish.

So, in 2018, the representatives of a coast guard of FSB of the Russian Federation illegally detained two Ukrainians, who on a fishing boat were in the sea of Azov near Berdyansk (Zaporozhye region). Despite the lack of grounds for detention (during the inspection of Ukrainian vessels not discovered any means of fishing, fish and forbidden to the free circulation of things), Ukrainian citizens forcibly taken to the city of Yeisk of Krasnodar region of the Russian Federation.

Subsequently, in the absence of lawyers, representatives of the consular institutions or other authorized entities representatives of FSB of the Russian Federation conducted the interrogations to illegally detained Ukrainians and required to sign false statements about the illegal catch of aquatic living resources is prohibited fishing gear. In connection with the refusal of the citizens of Ukraine to sign such acknowledgment, the representatives of the Russian secret service threatened to charge them with sabotage and espionage activities against Russia, which involves deprivation of liberty for a term of 20 years.

“FSB of the Russian Federation cynically admits his methods, openly stating about the re-examination, during which will be “found” weapons, explosives, drugs, etc.” – said in the SBU.

Thus, because of the real threats of lengthy imprisonment, Ukrainian citizens were forced to give false testimony. Against them were opened criminal proceedings under part 3 of article 256 and part 1 of article 258-1 of the Criminal code on illegal fishing. The Ukrainians were in different places of detention in Russia. After release, fined them and confiscated the income of the aggressor boat and other personal property.

SBU acknowledges that such activities of Russian special services is a violation of international law and is systemic. She is accompanied by information campaigns in the Russian media, which are aimed at undermining Ukraine’s image before the international community as a state, harming the ecological fauna of the Azov sea, the development and renewal of biological resources, contributes to pollution, etc.
