Even if the cows come from farms on grassland, the level of greenhouse gases is not reduced.

Among the powerful sources of greenhouse gases is often called livestock – it is believed that the proportion of herbivorous ungulates is here as much as 14.5 per cent. The reason is the peculiarities of digestion and metabolism: among the gases that produce the animals, there are methane and carbon dioxide.

Another reason that cows, sheep and goats are increasingly talking in the context of global warming – that they are becoming more. The world is gradually selected out of poverty, and in developing countries, people eat more meat-eating, and it is believed that by 2050 the amount of meat consumed per person would be twice more than now.

It is no secret that most cows are not walking in the pasture and eat fresh grass, they are kept on farms and fed a special feed based on cereals, soybean or corn . On the one hand, keeping cows on farms, we maintain meadows and forests – not the cattle eats the grass and we don’t have to clear for pastures new territory.

On the other hand, farms are often accused that they just pollute the environment biological waste, i.e. waste products of the same cows. In addition, livestock are often blamed for the fact that the world is becoming more drug bacteria.

The cattle are trying to protect against infections (which farms can actually bring huge damage), so they give the antibiotics to prevent the antibiotics then flow away to waste, and as a result, a variety of bacteria may want to sharpen your skills in overcoming of medicines.

Finally, with regard to the greenhouse gases that many experts believe that cows from farms, eating grain feed, produce more of these gases than if they were eating grass. In addition, a cow grazing in a meadow, is involved in a natural ecosystem, because along with the manure returns nitrogen to the soil and phosphorus that are needed the same herbs. The plants themselves, as we know, absorb carbon dioxide, and part of it remains in the roots – that is, soil with plant roots is a kind of depot of CO2. Cows, fertilizing the pasture, can help to ensure that carbon dioxide will remain in the soil all the more. So fighters with global warming often suggest go on eating meat and dairy products derived from the “free cattle” – encouraging pastoralism, we thus help to reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere.

However, as written in his report “Grazed and Confused” a group of researchers from independent enterprises Food Climate Research Network, all this environmental pastoral is only possible under certain conditions, to realize that it is very difficult, and primarily because cattle lot: a large herd tamp the soil to trample any vegetation.

There are other factors, like humidity, which affects the efficiency of absorption of carbon dioxide, but even in the best conditions, when pasture will remain intact and will absorb CO2 to shift the balance in favor of acquisitions will not work: digestive system animals still produces greenhouse gases, and their is still more than they could swallow the ecosystem.

Supporters of the withdrawal of cows in the pasture say that, at least in some countries, it is still possible to fatten cattle on the meadows, just need to make sure that didn’t happen “overpopulation”. But meat is really a large demand (which arises in particular due to population growth), and a large number of cattle – just an attempt to meet this demand. It remains to rely on technologies that can give us artificial meat, such that no fan of natural and natural could not distinguish it from the present.
