According to the information received, Western experts believe that the project of construction of the insulating structure over Chernobyl, called “Shelter”, has fulfilled its task and almost completely able to prevent the global spread of radiation. However, experts agree that for more than three decades, the sarcophagus was damaged so much that it may soon collapse and risk of radioactive contamination of the whole Ukraine and even Europe.

The experts noted that now the structure requires major restoration work, because it has very high probability of failure, and to prevent new nuclear disasters after the dismantling of the old sarcophagus needs to have his shelter was as strong as possible and not allowed to get radiation into the atmosphere.

You should pay attention to the fact that the contract for these works has been signed and one of the main issues is the time of its construction, as the cost of such work will cost Ukraine $78 million. In addition, the dismantling of the old sarcophagus needs to be completed before 2023, and clean the area under it will last until 2065.
