“We managed to resolve many problems in relations with the Russian Federation. This was possible thanks to my good relations with President Vladimir Putin. We had to decide and then the question of migrants, but this was prevented by the decision of the Moldovan government on the expulsion of five Russian diplomats. This was done intentionally to disrupt our developing relations with the Russian Federation”, – said the Moldovan leader.

“We will return to this issue in the next meeting with Vladimir Putin. If not sooner, the next meeting will be held in the framework of the CIS summit, which will be held in the fall in Sochi”, – said Igor Dodon.

Answering the question, when Moldovan citizens will be able to work in Russia without a patent, he noted that this will be possible once the Republic will become a member of the Eurasian economic Union (EEU).

“The fact that Moldova, unlike Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus is not a member of the EAEU. I have already filed the application for observer status in the EAEC. I hope that October will be a positive decision. Let’s move on to solve all these questions”, – said Igor Dodon.

He hopes that Putin’s visit to the Republic will be held next year. “I hope that Vladimir Vladimirovich will arrive next year. The issue we started discussing. I hope that next year I will be able to organize an official or working visit of Vladimir Putin in Moldova,” said Igor Dodon.

He recalled that the last time Putin visited Moldova in 2008, when he held the post of Prime Minister.

The status of the Russian language

Dodon considers it necessary to maintain the status of the Russian language, which is written in the law as a tool of international communication. “First we need to enforce existing legislation”, – he stated, noting that the question of the status of the language will undoubtedly be raised in the settlement of the Transdniestrian problem.

“It will be in the process of unification of the state, in the settlement of the Transnistrian problem. Now we must comply with the provisions of the law, according to which Russian is the language of interethnic communication”, – said Igor Dodon.

The ban on entry

Dodon looks forward to the lifting of the ban on entry to Russia for all citizens of the Republic. He said that this issue was discussed during this year’s five meetings with Putin.

“At these meetings, I basically raised three issues for the Moldovan migrants in Russia, the export of Moldovan goods to the Russian market and the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict”, – said Igor Dodon. He said that under the ban on being in Russia was 50 thousand Moldovan citizens.

“Among them are those who have a criminal record, and with such persons the ban lifted, can not be. Other violations are under two articles of the immigration law. The President of Russia agreed to give Amnesty to article 26, under which 26 thousand citizens of Moldova. According to article 27 Amnesty has not been made,” said Igor Dodon. According to him, difficulties arose after the government of Moldova adopted a decision to expel outside the country, five Russian diplomats.

“It was a provocation, it was done to ensure that I was not able to achieve any results in the dialogue with the Russian side. But soon we are going to seek Amnesty and 27 article”, added Dodon.

“The fundamental things”

As its main objectives Dodon considers that the strengthening of statehood, the Orthodox faith, neutrality, strategic cooperation with Russia and the problem of Transnistria.

“There are fundamental things that I will never back down. This is the statehood of Moldova, there is no bargaining to be. It’s neutrality, without which we cannot survive as a state if we start to play geopolitical games. It is also the Orthodox faith, which is the basis of our statehood. It is a strategic cooperation with Russia. And fifth, uniting the country, the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict”, – said Igor Dodon.

However, he noted that Moldova “needs to be friends with the West and the East”. “We will develop relations with all,” said the Moldovan leader. However, he stressed that he intends to deal with parties that advocate the elimination of Moldavia and its Union with neighboring Romania.

“That’s who should be declared persona non-grata in Moldova, it’s Traian Basescu (former President of Romania, who plays for the Union – approx. TASS). And all who oppose the sovereignty of the country. Basescu is currently under investigation in Romania. He decided to flee to Moldova, in order to avoid punishment? We do not allow”, – said Igor Dodon.

Speaking about the Transnistrian problem, the President expressed the view that in the current and next year the conflict will fail to resolve due to the fact that “the Parliament and government there are opponents of the reunification of the country”.

“I’m ready to move faster, but I will not support. The question of a political settlement will appear on the agenda in late 2018 – early 2019, after the parliamentary elections. Now we must concentrate on the second: how to help ordinary people on both sides of the Dniester”, – said Igor Dodon. He noted that for the inhabitants of Transnistria it is important to find a solution for the recognition of diplomas of universities, communication issues, termination of criminal cases, other existing problems.
