First Vice-speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s representative to the Humanities subgroup of the Trilateral contact group Irina Gerashchenko, President of the International Committee of the red cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer on Monday at a meeting in Kiev was considered missing in the Donbas and held in ORDA.
“Met with the President of the International Committee of the red cross Peter Mauer. Thanks for all the efforts of the ICRC for the support of the citizens and territories that it affected the conflict,” wrote I. Geraschenko on his page in Facebook.
She reminded that Ukraine in the framework of the humanitarian sub-group in Minsk insists on the involvement of the ICRC to search for missing and release of hostages. “There was not one of the 50 meetings in Minsk, where not raised this issue . And there is no explanation why Ukrainian prisons opened to ICRC and other international missions, but remain closed in the occupied territories and in Russia, where there are Ukrainian political prisoners. Why not allow the ICRC to visit Ukrainians in ORDA, send them letters or parcels from relatives. Also ORDO against the involvement of the ICRC in the release of hostages”, – expressed his indignation I. Gerashchenko.
In addition, the representative in the humanitarian sub-group recalled that the Ukrainian side suggested that a joint mission of the ICRC and the UN Committee on human rights has collected the statements of those people on the lists ORDO for the release, but are willing to stay in controlled by Ukrainian authorities territories. “But at this stage this mission will carry out only the UN office on human rights, as agreed in Minsk. Do everything to this stage has been passed faster and paved the way for the release of illegally detained Ukrainians”, – she added.
I. Gerashchenko also said that Ukraine supports the initiative of the ICRC on the establishment of a mechanism to search for missing and supplementary mechanisms and levers for the protection of critical infrastructure.
In addition, the parties discussed the issues of KPVV, humanitarian projects and the improvement of legislation in sphere of protection of families of the missing.
