The football team of Iceland

TASS, 9 Oct. Iceland national team defeated the team of Kosovo with the score 2:0 in the last match of the qualifying tournament of world championship-2018 on football and reached the final round of competitions which will pass in Russia.

Goals scored Gylfie Sigurdsson (40th minute) and Johann Gudmundsson (68).

In a parallel match of group I of the Croatia national team defeated the team of Ukraine – 2:0, the Turks played a draw with the Finns – 2:2. In the standings Icelanders scored 22 points and took first place in the group, the team of Croatia with 20 points was second and will play in butt matches for the right to participate in the world championship. Next are the teams of Ukraine (17) Turkey (15) Finland (8) and Kosovo (1).

Iceland first made it to the final of the world Cup. In 2016 the team for the first time participated in the European Championships and managed to reach the quarter-finals, taking second place in the group stage Hungary, Portugal and Austria, and on the 1/8 final, beating the British. In the next round of the playoffs Iceland lost out to eventual finalist, the team of France.

Team Iceland is the 16th team coming to the world Cup, after the teams of Russia, Belgium, Brazil, Mexico, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Germany, England, Spain, Nigeria, Costa Rica, Poland and Egypt. World Cup matches will be held from 14 June to 15 July 2018 in Moscow, St.-Petersburg, Kazan, Sochi, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Volgograd, Rostov-on-don, Kaliningrad, Yekaterinburg and Saransk.
