Conclusion on the causes of death of elephants will be presented to the public after the government of Botswana will analyze the results from all laboratories.

The Ministry of environment, natural resources and tourism of Botswana received the first results of investigations of dead elephants conducted in the laboratories of Zimbabwe. On Friday, July 10, said the acting permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Oduetse Kobato.

“I want to inform the public that we have the results now we will analyze them and compare with the information that we have. We need to combine these results with other research findings to come to conclusion,” he said.

Kobato emphasized that the conclusion about the cause of death of elephants will be presented to the public only after the government of Botswana will analyze the results from all laboratories.

The representative of the Ministry also reported that the recently discovered six more corpses of elephants, the total number of dead animals reached 281.

Earlier the Ministry reported that three laboratories in Zimbabwe, South Africa and Canada, will study tissue samples of dead elephants to determine the cause of their death.

The first reports of deaths were received on may 11. Since all carcasses were untouched, version of poaching was excluded. It was later found that the anthrax and poisoning people are not causes of their death. The investigation is ongoing.

As reported previously in Zimbabwe’s Hwange national Park for two months from starvation and the severe drought died at least 55 elephants. Some of the elephants were found within a radius of 50 meters from water bodies, which suggests that they died before they reached them.
