Augusto Pinochet came to power in 1973 in a military coup

Ex-employees accuse DINA of being involved in the disappearance and murder of 16 people.

A court in Chile has sentenced to different terms of imprisonment 106 former employees of intelligence agencies and military for the abduction and murder in the mid 1970-ies during the reign of Augusto Pinochet.

All prisoners worked in the Pinochet created the national intelligence service (DINA) and took part in the RAID “Colombo”, directed against representatives of the opposition.

Ex-employees accuse DINA of being involved in the disappearance and murder of 16 people. As noted by the judge, all the dead were members of the socialist party or left-wing activists.

They were arrested in Santiago from June 1974 to January 1975. Then they were taken to interrogation centers, after which no one has seen them alive . According to the verdict, the defendants got from a half to 20 years in prison, but many of them already serving sentences on other charges.

During the reign of Pinochet (1973-1990) in Chile have gone missing or killed about 3 thousand people, many were forced to flee abroad.

In the course of “operation Colombo” missing 119 Chilean opozitsionerov. The authorities explained their disappearance by the fact that they were deported and killed by their former associates or employees of foreign intelligence services.

Pinochet came to power in 1973 in a military coup, during which was ousted socialist President Salvador Allende. Augusto Pinochet died on 10 December 2006.
