German politicians have raised the issue of the boycott of world Cup 2018 in connection with the observance of civil rights in Russia.
“A country which does not observe basic civil rights, in principle, should not hold any world Championships. Unfortunate situation for overall security and human rights can lead to the fact that many football fans would prefer not to go to Russia for the tournament” — quoted Deputy Chairman of the ruling in the Bundestag of the CDU/CSU Michael Fuchs, Deutsche Welle.
He also noted, despite the fact that boycott international sporting competition should be applied in exceptional cases, Russia is not the first is moving in a dangerous direction, and the violations of international law and human rights is perfectly acceptable.
The reason for the discussion on boycott the world Cup has led to numerous detentions of participants of anti-corruption rally held in different cities of the country.
