Cardinal of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, the former head of the UGCC Lubomyr Husar was buried in Kiev, in the crypt of the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection, informs “Radio Freedom”.
The UGCC has reported that the funeral ceremony in the Cathedral was attended by about 600 priests from different dioceses of Ukraine and from abroad.
Recall that Lubomyr Husar died may 31 at 85-m to year of life after heavy illness. The next day to farewell the coffin with the body of the cardinal was moved to Lviv. Back to Kiev motorcade with the body of his Beatitude Lubomyr returned on 3 June.
Note that on January 26, 2001 Lubomyr Husar was elected head of the Church and lived in the Metropolitan’s chambers in Lviv. In 2005, he stated that transfers the residence of the head of the Church from Lviv to Kyiv. And in 2009 because of ill health he asked the Pope to abdicate from the throne. The request was complied in 2011 by Pope Benedict XVI . After that, Lubomyr Husar turned over control of the Church Sviatoslav Shevchuk.
It is also known that Lubomir Husar was not only a conductor of the Greek Catholics of Ukraine and the world, but also an outstanding public figure and philosopher, was one of the initiators of the group “First of December”.
