A new place of burial of the dictator is in the crypt, where, in 1988, was buried the wife of Franco.

The remains of the Spanish dictator Francisco Franco (1892-1975) was moved from the monumental complex of the Valley of the fallen near Madrid and reburied in the cemetery of Mingorria. It is reported by TASS on Thursday, October 24.

The ceremony was closed to the press. It was attended by only 22 relative of the dictator. Before burial, Franco hosted service. A new place of burial of the dictator is in the crypt, where in 1988 he was buried by his wife Carmen Polo.

Earlier on Thursday, Madrid exhumed the remains of Francisco Franco. The procedure started at about 10:30 local time (11:30 Kiev time). To retrieve the coffin in which 44 years ago, was buried dictator, was raised granite slab weighing in at 1.5 tons, covering the grave.

As stated by acting Prime Minister Pedro sánchez, the transfer of the remains of the dictator put an end to anomalies in the Spanish democracy.

Day supporters of Franco held several protests against the exhumation.

We will remind, a year ago, the Spanish Parliament decided to transfer the remains of Franco. In turn, some of the descendants of Franco expressed his “strong and unanimous” protest of exhumation. Thousands of right-wing protested against the removal of Franco’s remains from the mausoleum.
