However, if the technical side of the question was simple, the choice of a particular institution still causes the head to break. Argument in favor of a University is often the advice of friends or advertising, but there is a more modern method records the position of the University in the rankings.

What ratings to look for applicants

“Currently, there are 60 regularly updated national (covering universities within the same country) and 20 international rankings. The first national ranking appeared in 1983 (US News & World Report), the first international only in 2003 (Shanghai ranking),” – said TASS, the editor of the international ranking of universities Round University Ranking Oleg Soloviev.

According to him, focusing on the external rating system that is clearly separate national and international research. “The first group is primarily intended for applicants of the programmes of the undergraduate level because national rankings assess the universities much more completely than global,” – said Solovyov.

He added that international ratings suitable for those who plan to apply for graduate programs, PhD (graduate school), because they estimated, first and foremost, the level of ongoing University research and his reputation. These are the rankings like ARWU, THE, QS, US News.

How to stay in trend

According to the rector of MISIS Alevtina Chernikova, all the specialties that will be in demand in the coming years, have one thing in common – they require from graduates of interdisciplinary competencies. “Future occupations may include metallurgists, miners, IT professionals, including in the field of artificial intelligence and robotics. Increasing importance and development receive such sectors as nano – and biotechnology, nanoenergetics and molecular technologies. And, of course, not to mention specialists for new materials that will participate in the creation of breakthrough technologies in the next 10 years”, – said the rector.

Agreed with her and the rector of MIPT Nikolai Kudryavtsev. “Everything connected with artificial intelligence is very promising, it is a mistake to assume that there was a saturation. Now they are developing very intensively, while there is an obvious need not only IT specialists, but also in the Humanities, linguists. Artificial intelligence – the area where today we need the cooperation of specialists of different directions,” – said the rector.

Among other promising areas Kudryavtsev called the energy and pharmacology. “The development of Northern territories of Russia is one of the most important tasks, and it drags on and energy development. Among other topical areas I would also call medicine and pharmacology, which today is actively developing, it is also the area where now there is a combination of several Sciences. Here we observe the dynamics both in the development of pharmaceuticals, and in predicting disease, it is clear that this is the future”, – said the rector of MIPT.

Vice-rector for academic Affairs of the University sechenovskiy Tatiana Litvinov told TASS that this year the University will start training in four new specialties: “material Science and materials technology”, “Mechanics and mathematical modeling”, “Information systems and technologies”, “Nanomaterials”. “Maintaining the health of the population, keeping it at the proper level and high quality medical care is something that will be relevant at all times and demand in the labour market. Preparation for the four new professions of the future aims at improving the level of diagnosis and quality examination methods in healthcare in Russia”, – said Litvinov.

In turn, the rector of the Higher school of Economics Vyacheslav Bashev, speaking about the economic experts noted the importance of additional skills for working in a digital economy. “First of all, the competence-related ability to work with big data. In addition, in the future will need experts in the field of business Informatics (combines these areas of knowledge as mathematics, Economics, management, IT and engineering),” said Bashev.

Popularization of the teaching profession

Teacher training is carried out today in almost 300 high schools, attended by more than 400 thousand people. The growth of interest in this profession has repeatedly said the head of Ministry of education of the Russian Federation Olga Vasilyeva. In particular, in recent years began to grow, the average grade received in the pedagogical universities, there reached even applicants who have scored one hundred points on the state exams and have a great chance to do in almost any University.

“Who goes to study in pedagogical University? All sorts of people. Those who are going to work in the school, and those who see education as a stepping stone to careers in other fields – politics, consulting, recruitment, leisure and tourism, management in the sphere of culture, etc.,” said TASS, the rector of Moscow state pedagogical University Igor Remorenko.

According to him, there are completely new areas of activity, such as educational law. “We are developing it in partnership with foreign universities and researchers, every year it is becoming more popular. In addition students come to us those who already have professional experience. Mostly in grad school. The fact that we are probably the only educational institutions of the country, where budget places in the magistracy even more than in the undergraduate” – said the rector.

Commenting on a possible postponement of preferential pensions for teachers, Remorenko pointed out that the reform is unlikely to have a negative impact on the admission campaign. “Now in grad school in 1.5 times more applications than last year. Apparently people realize that to maintain and career development need to learn. In this case, of course, an extra incentive of admission to magistracy,” suggested the rector.

Interest in public administration

The Director of the Institute of public administration and management, Ranepa Igor Bartsits noted the consistently high interest in the programs of state and municipal management in the last decade. “He is associated with the understanding of the role that can and should the state play in the development of the country. We all want to live in a prosperous country, to be proud of, in which all her citizens feel comfortable. That is why today’s students want to be part of a team that changes lives for the better, and it pleases,” said he TASS.

In his opinion, to become a professional and successful Manager, you must first become an expert in the area in which they want to work. “The time when, for example, the printing press, was led by the Metallurgist, passed. Today is an era of professionals. Therefore, we persistently develop practice-oriented programs, encourage collaboration with various agencies, where our students can practice and internships,” said Bartsits.

Not “for the company”, and “soul”

The main period of the exam being completed, and the results of exams not be affected. Ahead of selecting a University, and this should be approached with the soul, the Director of Institute of age physiology of the Russian Academy of education, psychologist Mariana bezrukih.

“A few years ago we analyzed the reasons why the graduates go to a particular University, and we were absolutely amazed that in Moscow, it is the proximity of the University for many is the most important. Some even go “in company” with friends” – shared with TASS expert.

“There are many opportunities to find yourself, for example, if you think about medicine – volunteering in a hospital in high school. Then it will not be accidentally chosen profession. If people get the specialty and then they don’t need it – this is the hardest thing each day to go to work, how to torture,” concluded armless.
