TASS, 5 Feb. At least 70 Russian athletes will participate in the opening ceremony of the Olympic games in South Korea’s Pyeongchang. It is reported by the information service of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC).

“Given the fact that some athletes begin competition the next day after the opening, but many have not yet arrived in Pyongyang, our delegation at the ceremony will participate 70-75 people. Among them players of the hockey team, snowboarding, Luge, and skiers and jumpers from a springboard, representatives of freestyle, ski racing, bobsled and skeleton, speed skating,” – said in the message .

Russian athletes because of the removal of the ROC will not be able to perform at the Games in 2018 under the national flag. However, the international Olympic Committee (IOC) has provided an opportunity for the athletes to enter the competition under the Olympic flag and the status of the Olympic athletes from Russia. Currently part of the Russian delegation to the Games includes 168 athletes.

On 4 February, the head of the delegation of Olympic athletes from Russia’s Stanislav Pozdnyakov told TASS that the flag of the IOC under which the team will be held at the opening ceremony of the Games in 2018, will carry appointed organizing Committee volunteer.

The Olympic games will be held from 9 to 25 February. The opening ceremony will take place on 9 February at the Olympic stadium in Pyeongchang, beginning at 14:00 GMT.
