U.S. authorities detained the former President of Panama Ricardo Martinelli. About it reports Reuters with reference to the bailiffs.
According to the Agency, the detention was held in Miami, Florida by Federal marshals Service at the request of the Supreme court of Panama.
The government of this country declared Martinelli the international wanted list, accusing him of corruption and illegal tapping of more than 150 people in the period of presidency from 2009 to 2014.
The ex-President considers himself a victim of political persecution. He left the country in 2015 after the transfer of power to the current head of state Juan Carlos Varela, who was his Vice President.
In the case of the admission of guilt Martinelli faces a long prison term.
