UN high Commissioner Zeid RA’ad al Hussein called on the UN to authorize an international investigation of murders in Venezuela.

Security service in Venezuela executed more than 500 people in three years. This is stated in the new UN report on the situation of human rights in the country, announced June 22, the press service of the UN. The document stated that from July 2015 to March 2017 in Venezuela, security forces killed 505 people.

“Tragic incidents have occurred in the course of operations to maintain law and order in the regions, mainly the poor, who, in the opinion of the authorities, controlled by armed bandits. Experts talk about established practice of such operations: heavily armed police raids in poor neighborhoods and detain suspected “criminals” without a court order . If, during such raids they kill people, often in their own homes, they move the body and the objects in the scene to give the incident for emergency self-defense during the shooting. The government presents these actions as the success of the fight against crime in the country”, – stated in the message.

The report sent to the UN Council on human rights. “The document also contains information about the mass shootings of demonstrators who took to the streets in protest against the President’s constitutional reforms”, – said the press service of the UN.

The UN high Commissioner for human rights Zeid RA’ad al-Hussein believes that Venezuela is not the working principle of the rule of law. He urged members of the UN Council on human rights, drawing on that report, to authorize an international investigation.

Earlier it was reported that Venezuela raised the minimum wage to $1,85.
