MOSCOW, 6 Dec. /Offset. TASS Veronica sovetova/. Two-time Olympic champion in pole vaulting Yelena Isinbayeva has called for Russian athletes to not give up after the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to ban the Russian team to perform at the Games in 2018 and to continue to prepare for the winter Olympics. About Isinbayeva told TASS.
Reaction to the removal of Russia from the Olympics-2018
On Tuesday, the IOC decided to suspend the membership of the Russia n Olympic Committee, which does not allow the Russian national team to compete at the Olympic games in 2018 in Pyeongchang under the national flag. The IOC has accused Russia of systematic violation of anti-doping rules, in particular at the winter Games 2014 in Sochi. The IOC intends to respect the rights of clean athletes: athletes who will meet the above criteria, will perform at the Olympics in the status of “Olympic athlete from Russia.”
“Our team will be under the Olympic flag, – said Isinbayeva. – But, as I understand, is still under discussion. And most importantly, what I liked about this situation, but it is complex and unfair and all are tired of this, that in the close Games this whole situation must be completed. And our team will be able to leave under its own flag at the closing ceremony”.

“I understand that the IOC will thus tell the whole world – history is closed, the athletes of the Russian Federation all rechecked, no state support – continued the interlocutor of the TASS. – This may be the culmination of all this doping Saga around our country, it may a positive thing in this situation. Addressing the athletes, I want to say that they in any case did not despair, continued to prepare for Games.”
Isinbayeva said that would have been willing to compete at the 2016 Olympic games in Brazil to the status of an Olympic athlete from Russia. “If I would have submitted such an alternative, I would play in Rio”, – summed up the interlocutor of the TASS.
Isinbayeva was deprived of the right to participate in the 2016 Olympics because of the disqualification of the all-Russian athletics Federation.
