Coach “Manchester United” Jose Mourinho has called for the abolition of friendlies between the teams in mid-season. The Portuguese believes that such matches is carried out only once in two years
According to Mourinho, friendly matches increase the burden on the players, which is quite large. Furthermore, additional matches lead to injuries.
“I am completely against friendlies. They should cancel it. I think international friendlies for national teams only make sense in the final stage of training for the big tournaments. In the last few weeks before the Euros or world cups they have sense. However, in the middle of the season, in the days when are held the qualifiers, to hold more friendly matches not worth it. This just makes no sense. In addition, these games are rarely in the present tense, so I’m not a big fan . However, maybe someday I will become a coach and won’t treat friendlies as critical,” said Mourinho in an interview with Sky Sports.
Defenders of the “Manchester United” Chris Smalling and Phil Jones returned with injuries from international duty. Jones injured his thumb in a collision with Smalling replacing in training, and he is Smalling due to problems with his leg couldn’t play the friendly match against Germany and was out of action.
