Ukrainian reality dictates new requirements for the training of many specialists and journalists in particular.

For the future journalists will develop a curriculum that would be inclusive of mandatory training to work in hazardous conditions.

This was during an inter-Ministerial meeting in mon on the training of specialists in the specialty “Journalism” said the first Deputy Minister of education and science of Ukraine Volodymyr Kovtunets, the press service of the Ministry of education and science.

“Ukrainian reality dictates new requirements for the training of many specialists and journalists in particular. The media is inextricably linked to the most significant public events that are often dangerous, so the young specialist has to be ready for the challenges of their profession, to be able to take care of their lives and safety in all situations,” said Kovtunets .

A model curriculum for future journalists will be to develop an interagency group composed of representatives of the Ministry of education and science of Ukraine, security Service of Ukraine, Ministry of foreign Affairs, the Ministry of defence and the Ministry of information policy.

The curricula have to add a special discipline that will be focused on their own security of journalists during mass protests, in the midst of fighting, man-made disasters and the like.

It is also proposed to introduce corresponding changes not only in the standard curriculum, but also add them to the new state Committee for standardization 061 “Journalism” that is being developed. In particular, the ability to protect themselves during mass public actions, military action, disasters etc are offered to add as a required competency, which needs to have a bachelor’s and a master’s in journalism.
