PJSC “Kharkov tractor plant” (HTZ) is working on a prototype light armored multipurpose Transporter (MTLB) for the Ministry of defense of Ukraine, said General Director of the enterprise Andrey Koval.

“As for orders from the defense Ministry, we are working on that issue, because it requires revision of design documentation, so that this equipment met the needs of the Ukrainian army. We are talking about picking on other types of engines. We have received the task of designing and prototyping”, – said Alexander Koval at a briefing on Thursday.

Answering the specifying question of the correspondent of Agency “Interfax-Ukraine”, General Director of Khartsyzsk pipe said that we are talking about prototyping technique without using any Russian components.

“The prototype equipment MTLB completely without Russian components planned for the middle of next year”, – said Mr. Koval.

According to him, while this work holds HTZ at the expense of own means .

As reported, in late February 2015, the people’s Deputy Anton Gerashchenko reported that in the near future the specialists of the national security Council will visit Kharkiv tractor plant to study the issue of restoration of production of light armored vehicles.

“The plant has similar experience. In particular, HTZ at the time produced more than 10 thousand “Stud” and tens of thousands of lightly armored tractors MTLB, but was in the mid-2000s, purchased by Russian oligarch”, – wrote A. Gerashchenko on his page in Facebook.

“The main problem with the question – where to get engines for light armored vehicles… Diesel engines for self-propelled howitzers and armored personnel carriers took place in Russia in Yaroslavl and Chelyabinsk engine plants. Including the engines, which are massively installed on family vehicles KRAZ”, – he added.

At the end of April 2016, the President and owner of group of companies Alexander Yaroslavsky, at the proposal of the Austrian businessman Siegfried wolf, the investor PJSC “Kharkov tractor plant”, has acquired a controlling stake in this enterprise. A. Yaroslavsky announced the intention to invest in the enterprise about 200 million UAH.

March 3, 2017, President Petro Poroshenko, speaking at Khartsyzsk pipe, called for a resumption of production of light armored vehicles at the plant.

“Let us start rebuilding our spectroscopist. Because our MTLB very well proved during the defense of the state… a Fundamental task for us is to resume production,” – said P. Poroshenko.
