Kiev is preparing proposals for the abolition of roaming charges and negotiate lower training costs for Ukrainians to the EU.
Ukraine is preparing specific ideas on the abolition of roaming charges in mobile communications in the EU and present them to the Eastern partnership summit, said the Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin.
“Ukraine in the framework of the Eastern partnership for the first time raised the issue regarding the abolition of roaming and at first no one believed. I hope that the Eastern partnership summit we will come with specific ideas about this,” he said during a joint press conference with the foreign Ministers of Sweden and Lithuania on Thursday in Kiev.
P. Klimkin also said that currently discussing the issue of reducing the cost of education for Ukrainian students abroad .
As reported, on June 10 the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that the Ukrainian side is negotiating with the EU about the abolition of fees for mobile roaming. According to him, work is also underway for the introduction of accessible transport communications between Ukraine and the EU, attracting lowcost, increase the capacity of border checkpoints.
The EU has entered new rules on the abolition of roaming charges
From 15 June abolished roaming charges for international calls between countries of the European Union. Some European operators did not wait for a test date and introduced a new rule a few days before her. Roaming continues to be paid in Switzerland and some operators in the various European territories in Andorra, Monaco, San Marino and the Vatican. Thus an overseas territory of France, no matter how they were removed from the mother country, are exempt from paying for roaming charges.
Given the differences in national telephone tariffs, a mechanism to prevent abuse of the new rule, for example, when the people of one country want to become subscribers in the neighboring country with more favorable prices on international calls or to use other tricks.
