MANILA, 6 Aug. /TASS/. The Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov and foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed the crisis on the Korean Peninsula in light of the adoption of a new resolution of the UN Security Council against the DPRK . The head of the Russian foreign Ministry said on Sunday on the sidelines of the ASEAN regional forum in Manila.

“Much attention was paid to the situation on the Korean Peninsula, including in the context of the last night of UN security Council resolution, which, along with new and serious measures of influence on the leadership of Pyongyang in order to achieve implementation of Security Council resolutions concerning nuclear-missile programs of the DPRK, contains also the strong commitment of the UN security Council to resume the six-party talks in search of a political settlement,” – said the Minister.

Lavrov noted that Russia and China have a common position on the double freezing of missile and nuclear tests of North Korea and military exercises the US and South Korea. “Russia and China, as you know, is the joint position, – said Lavrov. – It is, as you know, is enshrined in the joint statement of the foreign Ministers of both countries on July 4 and involves the promotion of the political process through the Chinese initiative of a double freeze: the freeze missile launches and any nuclear tests in North Korea and the freezing of large-scale military exercises of the United States and the Republic of Korea”.

“Also, in addition to this the Chinese concept, in this our joint statement contains support for the Russian initiative on the gradual development of a roadmap to restore confidence and create conditions for the resumption of six-party talks, said Lavrov. – Agreed to promote this concept in practice, including in the UN.”
