Support for temporary suspension of debt servicing will receive 76 countries, 40 of them located in Africa South of the Sahara.

Major international creditors to temporarily freeze debt for a number of low-income countries, amounting to $ 20 billion in pandemic coronavirus, said the Minister of economy and Finance of France Bruno Le Mayor, says France-Presse.

“We achieved a moratorium on (the collection) of debts at the level of bilateral creditors and of private creditors for a total amount of 20 billion dollars”, – said the politician.

According to him, the willingness to suspend the debt service, but not to forgive them all, was expressed by the members of the Paris club (an informal intergovernmental organization of creditor countries) and group of twenty (G20), including China. France is ready to grant a delay on debts in the amount of 1 billion euros.

Thus support will be provided to 76 countries, 40 of them located in Africa South of the Sahara. The total size of their debt is $ 32 billion. Negotiations are underway to defer payments on the remaining 12 billion debt, most of which is attributed to the world Bank.

In parallel, it was reported that the international monetary Fund has written off part of the debts of 25 of the poorest countries.

Recall that the EU will give the last money from the budget 2020 for the fight against the pandemic.
