WARSAW, August 31. /TASS/. The head of the Polish tourist organization Marek Olszewski lost his job for having decided to take a Museum on the site of the former Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau in Oswiecim from the list are important for the promotion of Poland in the world of objects. This was announced on Thursday, Gazeta Wyborcza.

The scandal erupted after reports that Olszewski, claiming the programme of visits to the Republic of foreign journalists started to erase the visit to Auschwitz and the Museum of history of Polish Jews from their visits.

“Auschwitz is not a tourist product, and the place of the memory of the martyrdom of deep thought . We are promoting Poland as an attractive from the point of view of tourism of the country,” Olszewski explained the decision. “We want to make a bet on the value of our culture, show a great contribution to the development of Europe. There is no need to show places and events connected with the history of other Nations,” he said.

At these words the head of the Polish tourist organization promptly responded the Minister of sport and tourism Witold Bathhouse. “In connection with the scandalous statements of the President Olszewski I made a decision about his immediate resignation,” wrote the Minister on Twitter.

In the concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, the Nazis killed over 1 million Jews were poisoned in gas chambers and burned in crematoria. According to various estimates, it killed between 1.5 million to 2 million people of different nationalities, including around 15 thousand Soviet citizens. The concentration camp was liberated by the red army on 27 January 1945.
