Dmitry Medvedev delivers a report to the state Duma of the Russian Federation

The Russian Prime Minister says that he managed to surpass those of the USSR.

Russia has achieved outstanding results in the food self-sufficiency through own production. This was stated by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev during a speech with the report in the state Duma, RIA Novosti reported.

“We have reached such levels of food security that are inherent in the doctrine (Doctrine of food security of the Russian Federation – ed.) who have never in previous years — in the post-Soviet, nor in Soviet period – we have not achieved,” – said Medvedev.

He noted that “we, in fact, feed themselves, this is an outstanding result.”

“The crops that we collect, they are essential different from what it was in Soviet times, as well as addressing issues of food security,” – said Medvedev.

As reported Корреспондент.netRussia lost $1.5 billion on a “tomato war” with Turkey. Moreover, Russian consumers have been in serious loss: the price of tomatoes in the shop three times higher than the price at which they imported into the country.

The return of Turkish tomatoes on the market would be a disaster, as their wholesale price is 20-30% lower than in Russia.

Recall that in Germany the milk prices dropped due to Russia’s counter-sanctions.
