GENEVA, July 11. /Offset. TASS Konstantin Gain/. June 2018 was unusually hot in some regions of the planet. According to the European centre for medium-range weather forecasts, he was the second warmest June in history of systematic observation of weather and climate. This was reported in his newsletter world meteorological organization (WMO).

With the availability this year of a natural phenomenon La niña, which is associated with cold, the period from the beginning of January to July in WMO regarded as the warmest in the history of observations. “The temperature in June 2018 was exceptionally high in the vast areas of Northern Siberia, as well as significantly above average in most parts of the United States, in Central Canada and North Africa, the middle East and in the North of China”, – the meteorologists .

Forecasts for July

In the North of Europe meteorologists predict up to 23 July, the temperature on 3-6 degrees above normal. Dry weather, they warn, will increase the risk of forest fires, particularly in Scandinavia and the Baltic States. As reported July 10, meteorological service of great Britain, in some parts of the country the 16th consecutive day, the temperature never drops below 28 degrees.

The current June and July will be remembered not only warm, but also heavy rains. In Japan, due to heavy rains killed more than 150 people. In turn, the Typhoon “Mary” July 10, made up of Taiwan, the wind speed is 175 km per hour with gusts up to 250 kilometers per hour, which corresponds to hurricanes in the third level.

In the WMO stress that extreme weather events of June and July 2018 cannot only be explained by climate change, they nevertheless fit into the “long-term trend due to rising greenhouse gas concentrations”.
