UN, February 10. /TASS./ The United States may perhaps be preparing to take new steps against Iran at the site of the Security Council (SC) of the United Nations for the alleged supply of weapons to insurgents in Yemen. This view was expressed on Friday in an interview with Russian journalists, Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia .

He summed up the results of the visit of security Council members in Washington in late January, where they were shown debris, missiles and other military equipment supposedly of Iranian origin “as evidence of illegal shipments of Iranian weapons to the Houthis in Yemen.”

“The implication that they’re up to something. However, we don’t know what we didn’t see anything, but not exclude it”, – the diplomat said, answering a question about whether the trip to Washington, a prelude to some action in the Security Council. According to Nebenzu, other members of the security Council with interest got acquainted with the materials submitted by the American side, but some subsequently given to understand that “it is 100% did not convince them”.

In January, the U.S. permanent representative to the UN, Nikki Haley declared that the USA intend to achieve from the UN adopting measures to restrict the activities of Iran’s development of ballistic missiles and to tighten the arms embargo. According to her, all these steps can be taken outside the framework of the agreement on the Iranian nuclear program. At the end of the month the United States organized for the members of the UN Security Council trip to Washington, during which they were shown fragments of a ballistic missile launched by Yemeni rebels in Riyadh, as well as other weapons and equipment that have, according to the American side, the Iranian origin. The issue of Iran was also discussed at a working lunch members of the security Council with the President of the United States Donald trump, confirmed on Friday Vassily Nebenzia.

Last week the permanent representative of Kuwait Mansour Ayyad al-Otaibi suggested that the Security Council may soon return to the discussion of Iranian themes, including to consider the adoption of a resolution or statement in the context put forward by the US and allies charges. According to him, “several members of the Security Council feel the need to take action on the basis of evidence and available information.” He stressed that he did not know exactly when this might happen.

Earlier, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation stated that he sees no grounds for taking any measures against Iran in the UN. The diplomat reminded that “Iran categorically denies that delivers anything in Yemen”.
