“Ukrzaliznytsya” plans to complete construction of a new Beskidy tunnel may 25 this year, in addition, begins large-scale infrastructure projects worth more than UAH 10 billion, said the acting Chairman of the management Board of the company Evgeny Kravtsov.
“The project, which was to be completed in the fall, we plan to complete six months earlier. Beskydy tunnel needs to be opened on 25 may 2018”, – he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday.
Among the new projects E. Kravtsov called the ambitious project of electrification direction Dolynska – Mykolaiv – Kolosivka, which relates to the exit of the Nikolaev sea trade port and is strategic for the agricultural sector of the country.
He also mentioned the project of electrification direction Flows Zolotuchina, which is important for improving operations in the metallurgical and mining complex of Ukraine .
“Electrification of the direction Kovel – Izov – state Border – access of Ukrainian goods to European markets. Today it is a bottleneck in our transport map”, – said E. Kravtsov.
In addition, he stressed the importance of the railway to Mariupol: this year the company will continue to improve the throughput of the direction Kamysh-Zorya – Volnovakha – Mariupol.
“We did a lot over the past year: expanded (bandwidth – if) with 14-15 pairs of freight trains per day to 22. This is a significant increase in one year. Plan to raise it to 28 by the end of this year”, – said the acting Chairman of the Board.
As reported, the new double-track Beskid tunnel will replace the existing single-track, built in 1886 and has constraints on speed 15-40 km/h. It remains the only bottleneck in the direction of the Chop – Lviv. The new tunnel is projected under the speed 60-70 km/h and will increase the capacity of this section of the route from 47 to 100 pairs of trains per day.
It was noted earlier that construction work will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2017 and the first train will pass through the new tunnel, in the second quarter of 2018.
Length of the projected tunnel is 1764,5 m, depth – 781-807 meters above the sea level. For its construction elected “Novostroyki” method of tunnelling (construction provided as an explosive and excavating methods using advanced screen).
