Secretary of Council of national security and defense Council (NSDC) Oleksandr Turchynov said that the government proposed to increase the expenditures of the General Fund of the state budget for 2017 on security and defense in the amount of about UAH 3 billion.

“Proposed to increase expenditures in the security sector and defense for this position in the amount of about 3 billion UAH”, – he said at a press briefing after a meeting of the national security Council on Monday in Kiev.

At his word, it concerns the Ministry of defence and the National guard, and intelligence, and the National police, and issues associated with cyber security.

“From the General Fund budget is proposed to increase by 400 million UAH to the financing of the penitentiary system of the Ministry of justice,” – said the NSDC Secretary, noting that the government and the Ministry of justice needs as soon as possible to present the reform of the Penitentiary service of Ukraine.

According to A . Turchinov, the cost of security and defense are linked with the situation and the threats that now facing Ukraine. “First and foremost, this is due to the continuation of aggression of Russia against Ukraine”, – he said.

As reported, on June 22, 2017, the Verkhovna Rada adopted in first reading a government bill on amendments to the state budget-2017 (No. 6600) to increase its income and spending by 26 billion UAH.
