The first ever business mission from Japan on Tuesday, 27 June, arrived on the Kuril Islands, to establish economic relations with the Russian side.

About this “Russian conversation” reports with reference to the press service of the Governor of the Sakhalin region.

The delegation included 69 participants: 32 representatives of private companies, state and municipal agencies.

The Japanese are keen to explore opportunities for joint economic activities in the region, as agreed earlier, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe.

“The group is headed by the Special adviser to the Prime Minister of Japan eiichi Hasegawa. Over the next five days she will visit Islands Kunashir, Iturup and Shikotan”, — said in the message.

The Sakhalin region Governor Oleg Kozhemyako believes the visit of the Japanese big step in bilateral relations . Local authorities, in their turn, are ready to provide conditions for business development in the region.

Hasegawa said: “For us it is important to find as many points of contact with the Russian side on the Kuril Islands”.

He noted that examination of objects will allow to identify the most promising areas for cooperation and develop concrete projects to produce in the future in the Kuril Islands products had the opportunity to go beyond the region and even the state.

Recall that the business delegation of the Sakhalin region has called for an expert group that discussed projects in the sphere of agriculture and fisheries, tourism and other industries.

As previously reported, “Russian Dialogue,” Putin noted the need to create favorable conditions to resolve the territorial dispute over the Kuril Islands. The final form of the solution remains unknown. The President also spoke about the fate of the Kuril Islands in case of transfer of them to Japan, noting in this part of the United States.
