The epicenter of tremors was located about 91 km East-South-East of the island of Futuna.

The earthquake of a magnitude of 5.9 occurred in the Pacific ocean in 604 km North-East of the capital of Fiji – Suva. It is reported by Interfax with reference to the Altai-Sayan branch of the Geophysical service of a Single RAS on Friday, August 23.

According to the operational handling, the epicenter, recorded the earthquake had coordinates -14.64 degrees South latitude and -177.22 degrees West longitude. The epicenter was located about 91 km East-South-East of the island of Futuna (territory of the Wallis and Futuna is an overseas community of France) at a depth of 10 kilometers.

Intensity of concussions in epicentre of the earthquake is assessed as “devastating”.

We will remind, this week in the Pacific ocean was recorded earthquake of magnitude of 6.1 on the West coast of the island of Utupua in the archipelago of Santa Cruz, state-owned Solomon Islands.

Previously in Turkey, the earthquake damaged thousands of houses. The magnitude aftershocks amounted to 6.5 points.
