The office of the UN high Commissioner for human rights (OHCHR) urges Russia to stop military actions against the Crimean Tatars in the Crimea to lift the ban on the activities of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people.

“To put an end to the police action, including house searches, subpoenas, detention, taking of DNA samples, focused disproportionately on members of the Crimean Tatar community”, – stated in the recommendations to the Russian authorities, contained in the OHCHR report for the period from 22 February 2014 to 12 September 2017.

Also the UN has urged Russia to lift any restrictions on the right of the Crimean Tatar community on public institutions, including the Parliament .

In addition, OHCHR recommends the Russian Federation to ensure the right to freedom of expression, peaceful Assembly, Association, conscience and religion for all individuals and groups in the Crimea, without discrimination on any grounds, particularly on race, nationality, political opinion or ethnic origin.
