MOSCOW, August 6. /TASS/. The players of the National hockey League (NHL) still have a chance to participate in the Olympic games 2018 in South Korea’s Pyeongchang. Such opinion to journalists was expressed by the forward of Russian national team and NHL club “Washington” Alexander Ovechkin.

In early April, the NHL announced that it will suspend regular season in February of 2018 at the Olympic hockey tournament, while noting that the issue of individual players will be discussed separately. In late may, NHL Commissioner Gary Betmen said that none of the players in the League will not participate in the Games in 2018.

“About the Olympics already said it all. Hopefully, there is always a chance, we’ll see. With other players about this no contact,” said Ovechkin .

According to the President of Federation of hockey of Russia Vladislav Tretyak, the national team is ready to no NHL players in the Olympics. “Alexander [Ovechkin] really wanted to play for the national team. Don’t know if it will work or not, but in North America I have a great desire to play in the Olympics. If not, we still are prepared,” – said Tretiak.

“In December will be the First channel Cup, it will arrive teams from Canada, Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, will be a very strong tournament. We are all preparing for the Olympic games, it was a kind of exam for athletes,” – said the head of the Federation.

The Olympics will be held in Pyeongchang from 9 to 25 February.
